I know that feeling of not being wanted.
Re: BARBERTON Tie In The Dots 2016.
No, no. Just making sure you guys don't lose out! :)

I actually wanted you to add my son and member "Kwan" to the list who is coming in their own vehicle with his wife and child, plus a friend.

This is taking so long now!

Ah, the prodigal son??
Re: BARBERTON Tie In The Dots 2016.
To recap:

Everybody is welcome – this is the last TITD adventure I will be hosting. I would really like a big turnout and hopefully create enough “momentum” for somebody else to pick up the lead. The reason for attempting to get all the names on a list (and PLEASE on a Whatsapp group), is simply to try and ensure that everybody is safely in Barberton and accounted for before we head off into them thar mountains.

The basic arrangement is for everybody to arrive (Friday 30 September) in Barberton on their own steam and timeline. Then make your way to Digger’s Retreat. Mark (the owner) is expecting us. Because of the wonderfully large group we have this year, I have arranged with Mark for us to park in his camp-site and then to walk the short distance to the pool and pub area. There you can relax and have something cool from his bar (swimming will be a definite option if the current weather holds) while we wait for everybody to arrive. Mark is hosting a big event that evening, so his kitchen will be closed for any and all food orders. I suggest you arrive with a full stomach or a full lunch basket.

The latest we can leave from Digger’s is 16h30. If we leave later, we will be negotiating off-road tracks in the dark, with caravans and trailers in tow – not ideal. I will leave detailed and annotated maps with Mark for the guys that can’t make it to Diggers on time.

We are planning to sleep Friday and Saturday night on the mountain. There are zero amenities on the mountain, not even a water tap. You need to cart everything with you – including your (optional) shower. I will arrange for a chemical toilet, which was perfect last year. Wood, however, is plentiful and we should be able to repeat last year’s bonfire.

Saturday morning we head off in pursuit of the old Fairview mine history. You will be required to make use of the short gear lever on quite a few occasions and I imagine the T/C lights on your dash display will light-up like a Christmas tree near the top of the Olifant’s Kloof.

You need to carry a fully loaded cooler box and lunch basket with you on Saturday. We will break for lunch somewhere on the mountain.

I obviously have a planned route for the day, but I will not even attempt to stay on schedule, as the group is simply too big. The idea is for everybody to be relaxed, enjoy the magic of your Pajero in its most preferred environment, breathe the fresh mountain air, take in the spectacular scenery and capture as many photographs as you like.

We should be back in camp by late afternoon, with enough time in the bank to go for sundowners at Thomas and/or Eureka City.

Sunday morning we each break camp at our own leisure and time and head off the mountain and home. We can chat about potential routes back to the Highveld, including the Geo-trail up the Bulembu road.
Re: BARBERTON Tie In The Dots 2016.
Cloyd has offered to lead an early (late am) convoy up the mountain to Vic hotel. That would be for those that will be early in Barberton on the Friday.
Please indicate if you are interested.
Re: BARBERTON Tie In The Dots 2016.
Roelf and Friends,

After the curved ball that Roelf pitched to me, I asked Leo Theron who used to be my navigator on Shackletons to join the outing and thus to take over the navigating duties to the camp site. He immediately agreed join the group and to do the honours of navigating - used to be his profession. That is if you guys will allow him with us with his Suzuki. Seeing that we have a mixed batch, the Suzi will not be the only "foreigner" in the group. Leo has also agreed to take and provide photos by 'e" mail of the outing - this is his "new career" after he retired.

If some friends would like to get to the camping site earlier to ascertain that all the snakes and goggas have departed from the site - you must provide your own snakebite and anti-gogga kits - please give your names. I think the "voorspan" - snake and gogga removers - should depart from Diggers by ±14h00 after a briefing by Roelf.

Hi Guys,

As per the perfect science: in hindsight, a better departure time will be somewhere between 12h00 and 14h00. Pse indicate your preference.
