Johan,

I use the same as you (Delo 400 Super Premium Diesel Oil - 15W40).

I actually thought that the 15W40 is a reference to multigrade (MULTIGRADE = An oil that has a wide viscosity or thickness range.) - therefore my understanding is that the one you (and I) use is one of the Multigrade derivatives offered by Caltex.

Maybe the lubrication fundi's here can help us out.

Hi Anton, I must confess and apologize. i am getting old and memory not that good.

I checked and i actually use the Multi grade. I remember standing with both in hand before i bought them for the service.

There doesnt seem a huge difference between them and would also like the fundies to give their opinion between the two.

Seems like I spoke too soon. The light came on again this morning, although a lot more brief than before. The Delo is making a difference.

I also use the Multigrade 15W-40. Did not know there were 2 Delo 400's?

Re: Engine Oil Level Light coming on
it may only go away fully with next change as some old oil may still be there (may have stayed in oil cooler when the engine oil was draining)

Other than that you can do what a lot of 4m41 owner's do - overfill it by 400ml. Nobody has reported ill effects so far but the decision still lies with you (I recommend it but safeguard myself against a law suit)
Re: Engine Oil Level Light coming on
I had one of the old type wire dip sticks. replaced it with this newer type and filled it to the level indicated + a little bit more. Changed oil to Delo400 and have not had the light come on again..... yet.

Yes, that is the last resort. It is just funny how the light comes on once during the day (in the morning) and then not again for the rest of the day. If the level was to low, then surely it should light up the whole time.

I just like to try and figure it out! :D

Re: Engine Oil Level Light coming on
The light on my 2000 DiD came on once a day (only some days), but ALWAYS on the way home from work at the same spot. That would be about 2km after start-up and on a slight uphill at about 80km/h steady speed. That was with oil level on the dipstick max mark. I did the services myself. Then I had a bigger service done at my indi in town and he "overfilled" the sump. I complained and he assured me that they measured the correct amount of oil into the sump. I left it there (was over by about 8mm) and the oil level light never came on. After that I did the same at service time and that was the end of that light. I used a CASTROL high performance diesel oil. Came across a 500ml full bottel in my store room just this weekend. One that is seriously battle scarred from sitting in some hidden emergency box in my car for thousands of km's. Was obviously never needed - no surpise. My following Pajeros had maint plans and I haven't serviced a Pajero since 2003. And still the oil level is well above the max mark.

Eish - I am some 21 years older - therefore so much more "memory fatique"!

I first assumed the Delo Gold MUST be the better product, but apparently the 400 is the premium product.

I think the other Delo 400 options (eg. 10W-30) are aimed at countries with different temperature profiles. Here is a link to the derivatives: DELO 400

I have the same problem and will also try the extra 400ml - thanks for the info.

Kobus,

It only works with Delo400. I previously had Helix oil in my Pajero, and over-filling did nothing to sooth the lifters. :( If you do not have Delo400 in your engine, I suggest you flush & replace with Delo, then over-fill by 500ml.
