what's the voltage at the battery terminals when running? (ie. voltage meter directly on battery + and - )

It is 12.7v just over the battery.

Please have a look art the pictures, is that the sensor you ate talking about. Will a 2.8 senator work or only a 3.2 did ?

12.7 is very low and will not charge the battery fully.

When idling the voltage at the battery needs to be between 13.4 and 13.9 volts.

I'm not sure which sensor is which one. Disconnect one at a time and see which one kills the temp display on the dash. You then know it's the other one.

I suspect the 2.8 one might work but not sure. Don't take the chance.

It is 13.6v when idling.

As my luck would have it, the sensor in the picture is the one for the gauge. The other one is not so easy to get to.

Mime also sits there but that is just a reflection of the gauge sensor. The ecu has it's own sensor.

Check my weird idle thread to see how the throttle body closes at idle when the engine is up to temp. If that mechanism is working as i described then the ecu sensor is probably good.

Mine doesn't close, I would need to get a sensor, I phone Mitsu Brooklyn and Sandton and they said nothing in stock in the whole country.

Went to Gert at Parthunt, also nothing, so I don't know where to look for anymore.

I hope this is my issue with the consumption...

remember that it will only close when idling when the engine is up to temp.

If it doesn't your temp sensor for the ecu is probably shot and I am confident it will affect your fuel economy.

I bought a new coolant sensor from Mitsubishi. I installed it this morning drove around the whole morning.

Checked the valve just now and still stays open when idling. Can you upload a photo if yours when its closed. I checked the thermostat as well and it says 76.?C. I opened it with a screwdriver and it seems fine.....

Note I don't know anymore....
