Any idea how big a job fitting the support brackets would be? A one day job that can be done together with a normal service?
depends on how busy the dealership is, but Midrand wanted me to leave the car for 2-3 days since the removal of the dash seems to take some time.

No self respecting technician will need two days to strip a dash. A panel beater can strip a whole car in two days.

Well, I'm supposed to get a call from them sometime this week to book the car in. Lets wait and see: firstly if I actually get that call and then what they say during that call. Will keep you guys posted though.

Re: Gen 4 dashboard support brackets
I spoke to the service manager at the local Mitsu dealership today and surprise surprise he has never heard of such a problem nor the remedy of special brackets! So Roelf, if you get any better news than this, please let us have it.

Re: Gen 4 dashboard support brackets
I was promised a call during the week. Tomorrow is the end of the week, so I suppose the call will have to be from me to them

Re: Gen 4 dashboard support brackets
I have just phoned the service consultant at the Mitsu dealer. She says the brackets are in stock and they will fit it under the maint plan. We are just waiting for the rear brake pads to arrive, then the car goes in for the brackets and the pads at the same time.

That is indeed good news that they will fit the brackets under the maintenance plan. I will now definitely put pressure on my dealership to follow up on this issue. Roelf, I take it yours will be done in Nelspruit?

That is correct - Union Motors Nelspruit

Some follow-up comments:

The usual format occured, I would not get the promised call from the dealer, then I would phone. Then it is a "let me quickly check, I'll call you back", which of course doesn't happen and a few days later I repeat the performance. So yesterday I got a call from some "follow-up company" to enquire about my service experience. I ticked all the appropriate boxes and then made a point of complaining about the lack of parts (rear pads currently) and the zero feedback from the dealer on promises.

This morning at 08.03 the dealer called with an apology for making me wait for feedback and yip, the pads have arrived.

She asked if the car could be booked in for an over night operation, rather than just one day. So it seems Tuinvurk's Midrand boys didn't have it too wrong. I have no problem with an overnighter for my car. Maybe he will get to sleep with a sexy little SWB :D . He is a big strong boy, but I'm sure he will be gentle

So, on Monday afternoon he goes in and I'll pick him up on Wednesday afternoon again.

I'll keep you gents posted on the job and the results. I promise to try and get as much info from the service consultant as possible.

Can you please try to find out if the dash support brackets are suitable for Generation 3 pajeros. My poor SWB's dashboard get terrible shakes on rough roads, and I suspect that the dash is loose, or some of the brackets are broken.

Re: Gen 4 dashboard support brackets
Stephan,

It is a Gen4 fix for the heavy radio.

Gents,

The brackets are in and the dash is clearly much more sturdy.

I think Union Motors Nelspruit deserves a "thanks" for the way they approached this whole dash issue.
