It's Tuesday already.....time for feedback.
Scenario: From Meyerton to Bloemfontein, we only had the empty roof rack. From Bloemfontein back to Meyerton, we had a roof top tent on the roof rack. Drove from Meyerton to Bloem, filled up. Drove around a bit, mostly open roads and some very lekker dirt raods. Loaded the roof top tent, drove back to Meyerton, filled up in Meyerton.
Average speed both directions, approx 110km/h (kept cruise control at about 105 - 115km/h)
Consumption:
Meyerton to Bloem: 8.03km/l
Bloem, gravel raods, Meyerton: 8.31km/l.
I can't explain why with the tent I got better millage, maybe it's got to do with how "full" the car was filled at the various stations.
Power: Definitely less power without the chip. Overtaking had the biggest effect. Usually, just put foot and go....now, had to try a little harder to get going. Overall, the power was more than enough. No complaints other than adjusting overtaking opportunities.
Other feedback: Gear changes feel smoother, BUT, 3rd to 4th and 4th to 5th happens at higher revs. Especially when you are climbing. Revs go to about 3500-3800rpm before changing. I'm not used to this.....diesels aren't suppose to rev high.
I really thought that I will get 10km/l. That has been done before...on a trip to Bloemftein but we didn't had the roofrack back then. Next time, I will remove the roofrack and see what happens then. If I still don't get close to 10km/l...chip will probably go back in, go for a remap, and see what it does....but this will be the last resort.
The Pajero did go for a service on Tuesday, air filter was replaced as the previous one was a bit dirty. This can also have an influence on the consumption. Before the service, the pajero just didn't feel right, struggled to pull, something was not in place. (Always make sure they check your air filter with services...or rather just replace with every service..Cost about R300). After the service and chip removal, driving around town felt allot better, so I believe that the dirty air filter had a huge effect. Without the chip, the pajero pulled better than before the service and with the chip....for town driving.
For the next few months, mostly town driving will be done, so I can monitor "traffic" consumption and later this year, hopefully I will do a longer trip again where I can remove the roofrack and compare stats then. Since I bought the pajero, I did a little over 24000km, average consumption is just under 8km/l. Worst: 4.xxkm/l, Best: 10.xxkm/l (dont have tablet with me now).
