It is my understanding that no Pajero sold in South Africa so far have had DPF fitted. Possibly due to our more sulphur rich diesel. Mine is definately not fitted with one.
I am also not unhappy with the Jatco(Mitsu own some shares in them) but it is interesting that it was later changed to an Aisin(Toyota subsidiary) unit on the later models.
I have not totally made peace with my performance and might just try and get it remapped to see what it does one day. It aint bad, but it is definately down from my old gen3.

Greg
If I recall correctly you replaced the SCV at one stage. Why? Preventative? And did it make any noticable performance change?

Cats -
I had a very very mild occasional surging, which indicated a faulty SCV. So I expected it to get worse, so I replaced the SCV. The surge is gone now, but there wasn't any other change.
Peter -
So I assume you removed the upper intake manifold (with the EGR attached). And looking into the lower half?Did you do a pull blanking plate? Don't you get any error codes?
Is this how far you went?
Most guys in Australia say hat their EGR, and upper and lower intake manifolds are very blocked up with soot, and cleaning makes a big performance difference. See the soot build up in the above photo.
In a way, I'm hoping that the manifold is clean, but another part of me hopes it is very blocked up and that cleaning it improves performance
Cheers,
Greg

Yes Greg that is how far I went it was not necessary to go further as my main interest was setting the valve clearance. Yes I just made up blanking plates on the flanges on both sides of the egr cooler. I saw that cooler was now water cooled (Gen 3 not) and decided an additional blanking plate would just make me happier. My blanking plates have no holes and I have no fault codes.
I read up about overseas guys getting fault codes and having to drill holes in the blanking plates. As mentioned by Cats and I we believe that we in SA have new models with older technology and I believe as a result of this, is maybe why we do not get the fault codes (let's see what others have to say). We also do not have the Variable vein turbo's and DPf'S that they have fitted to overseas 2009 models. While on this subject - watch this space!!!!!
Cats with regard to the Aisan auto's - we were busy with an auto problem at big "T" and one of the technical guys said to me one day "they make good cars but oh man they cannot get their auto's right!" so hopefully they have got them right now!

So I went to Middleberg today to buy an offroad trailer (XT120 will open a new thread). Travelling there I was contemplating any further improvement after setting / adjusting my boost pressure again. Paid for it, hooked up and left. Once I got up to cruising speed on the freeway it was terrible and possibly worse. The empty XT120 (500kg) with a big trailer top tent is probably 700kg's tops and I was not able to keep 120 uphill. As soon as it hits 119km/h it kicks out of lock up and it just feels gutless. Now I was convinced there is /was something wrong if only it would just break give up so that I can put my finger on it. Rats I was not a happy chap! At Rigel hill I got it up to about 130 at the bottom and had a clear run in the fast lane. About half way up I then realised there was a very slight but a very definite surging and the speed was gradually slowing down. The SCV most likely according to description of other SCV problems. I just want to replace / eliminate the fuel filter (should have been done by dealer at last major service) before I tackle the SCV.

Are you in PTA? Maybe we all should meet some time to compare the Gen4s
Mine won't help as it is chipped

I would be keen to drive a few examples to compare but mine is also long past standard with roofracks, batteries etc etc. So not sure how comparable it would be.

comparing vehicles

Comparing vehicles is a very good way to find out if there is something wrong. I bought my pajero second hand, my first 4×4 and my first auto as well. Having no experience and nothing to compare it with I did not know, and still don't know if it's good or bad.
A friend of mine who drives a gen 3 says it's better than his and the guy who services it says it's slow compared to his gen4 (his is chipped). So not comparing apples with apples.
I think we must organize a get together for standard gen4's and compare and share experiences.

Or a dyno day? Anybody got a contact with a dyno?

Great idea. I presume it would be best for all after hours. I know someone with a dyno in Lyttleton / Centurion (now that is a "toy/tool" I don't have) but I am not sure he will be willing to do an after hours mayyyy......be a Saturday.
How many of us are interested? Maybe I can interest him in about 5 or 6. I believe he would charge us as a group though.
Lets see how many of us are keen. Anyone else that knows of a Dyno can see what they can do as well.
