Not to funny or anything, but a nudge bar ain't going to protect you or your vehicle against a kudu... Also keep in mind that it was reported on some forums that the cops in Nam is clamping down on light bars...

Did not think it was meant to be funny - however, one needs a proper fixing point for the spotlight - which is used to see animals when driving at night on rural farm roads. I never viewed the nudge bar as physical protection against any impact.
Yes, I also know about the court case/s going on in Namibia ito led light bars - I will take my chance and hope the authorities have a better solution to stray animals in Rehoboth, Ovambo, Kavango and all over the communal areas...

Talk to Shaun at Bongwe 4x4 Centre Westrand - got mine there R2k cheaper than quote from LAS.

Hi Leon,

I guess you are on your way back now. Such a pity that I did not know you were coming to the Woesrand. We could have had a beer or a coffee together while you were having your nudge bar fitted.

If the light bar is going to be a problem why don't you make it removable with wingnuts and an anderson plug for the power. Then you can fit it only when you are travelling in high risk kudu areas. Or what about a slip over metal cover?

Have you heard about kudu whistles? The farmers down in the Eastern Cape told us about them where the kudus are also a huge problem. They are like super police whistles that is mounted in the front of your vehicle and it makes a very high pitched sound that is supposed to chase them. I don't know for sure that they work but it is certainly worth a try. And sorry, it was a few years ago and I don't have any contact details. Maybe google it and see if anything comes up.

DiD Man, yes, it would have been great having a couple of brewskies...hopfully next time, or for sure when you are in my neck of the woods.
I arranged for the light bar to be easily removed - just in case.
Thanks for the heads-up...I will look into the whistle thing - just hope ours play by the rules, and do not mistake it for a mating call or such...
Cheers.

Re: Pajero and Pajero Sport engines
Hi Leon,

Some guys say as the springs loose their tensile strength the air helpers work better and better because you are then first being cushioned by the air before the spring is required to work. This is much like the difference between a low profile and a 75 series tyre. The 75 is just so much more comfortable on a dirt road.

What pressure did you pump the balloons and did you notice any difference in the ride driving back?

You did not tell me where the 20mm spacer is on the front strut?

Cheers, Boet.

Photo: Placement of the spacer on top of the strut.
I pump the air springs 1 bar for moderate support.
I am only at Sun City now, but must say the ride is defenitly improved.
At 2 bar it lifts the car some, and gives a very firm ride...

which I suppose would be just right with a 750 kg load.

Re: Pajero and Pajero Sport engines
Thanks for the photo Leon, I hope the spacer mod works well on the front strut.

I see that I have been a bit off topic with my suspension discussion in the engine section, sorry about that. The complaints of a iffy ride with standard suspension is a bit worrying.

I have read the posts on the various shock/upgrade options for the sport and now I am really confused and would not spend any money on OME or any of the recognized upgrade kits available. There are some real worrying stories by other guys complaining of a hard ride and vibration problems with them that would put me off for sure. I am disappointed to hear this.

I also popped into the Mitsu agents and crawled in under the Sport and I think the scope for mods are very restricted because of the mounting points of the back shocks being so close to the anti roll/sway bar or whatever it is called, they barely miss each other. There is also not a lot of room around the front strut to allow any radical change from standard.

Your mod may be the way to go for now Leon, let us know how it performed on the trip back home.

I also spoke to the tyre guys and they said 65 to 70 series on 265 tyres will only give you 15mm lift so that is not a solution either unless you were replacing your tyres anyway. And is he right in saying there is no 75 series 17 inch tyre?

And don't forget the PS has a rear diff lock, something that doesn't come with all Pajeros, I believe.

Dear forum members, I gave poor advise and need to rectify this:
PLEASE do not use my post above as a good reference, or otherwise, if you EVER use this outfit to work on any suspension, please make sure that they tighten the bolts.
Yesterday at noon I almost lost my PS and the lives of my wife and I, some 70 km before Kang in Botswana, when the left front swing arm bolts fell out after Bongwe fitted strut spacers. The bolts were only tightened by hand, and never saw a spanner or torque wrench !!
Mitsu in Winhoek will now repair the damage - which is extensive.
Sorry to have given poor advice.
