I live in Zambia and sold my Pajero because all the pleasure faded into resentment when driving on bad roads.

I met a guy today who came to me to have his dashboard stabilized with the brackets. He bought the 2007 LWB a few months ago from a guy who had already had the dashboard brackets installed by myself and the rest of the loose dash tightened up properly (I checked my own workmanship).
So we sat and debated why he felt the dash needed the fix, even though it was already installed.
We looked at the shocks and realized that they were the original Mitsubishi shocks, the car is now 13 years old and has 176,000km on the clock. The previous owner apparently only used it for off-road trips to Lesotho and Moz as a “holiday” vehicle.
My deduction is that the suspension needs to be checked for wear and tear, bushes and shocks especially. I’m not aware of any shocks that will last this long without compromising the ride somewhat.
Also, he works at Ford in Pretoria and gets to drive brand new Rangers and Everests daily so he was comparing brand new vehicles to a 13 year old used vehicle.
In summary, any old car will have rattles and a poor ride compared to a new one so we all need to be aware of this difference due to the deterioration of the suspension components, over time. Rubber age hardens for its entire life so it is something that needs to be considered when buying an older car (bushes, tyres, shock seals etc).
