I have 2013 Gen4 and to me it performs excellently. I bought it with 29 000 km and now am at 52 000 km. I have never lacked power at whatever speed. The only issue is slightly delayed turbo kick-in when am going up mountains. My average fuel consumption in town ranges between 10 to 12 L/100km, on the highway its about 9 to 10 L/100km. I am completely satisfied with the pajero, very addictive indeed.

You will notice the thread has been labeled "early (2007-'09) Gen4", the reason being that while it remains the 3.2DID engine, there is a difference in the engine setup from 2010 on, in that the engine ECU, turbo, etc, is different. Your Pajero puts out 140kw and the model under discussion puts out a "contended" 120kw.

Nismo - Thanks for the offer. Somehow missed your post till now. I will definitely PM you once things normalize a bit here at the "salt mine". Currently up to my ears in it plus now I am away for a few days as well, so might only be sometime in April.

Perhaps it's something simple.

What's the gearing comparison between gen3/gen4?

Tyre size changed?

Gen4 intercooler more obscured?

When is the last time the air filter was changed?

Perhaps the EGR is stuck partly open bleeding boost.

I think the gen4 has swirl flaps? Perhaps they are gummed up and no longer operating as intended robbing power.

Here we go. I suspect the swirl flaps could be to blame.

So, lets do the Dyno thing with before and after results.

ie Air sensor clean / replace and or de-coke of the "swirly flaps"

Thanks again Marius you have succeeded in getting my hopes up once more. I was feeling particularly down as I had thought i HAD IT BEAT! But no it was not to be. I agree Marius it normally is something quite simple or logical that was overlooked. I continued doing research on the fuel system side and when I found a tiny fuel filter inside the CR fuel pressure pump, I thought I had it. Speculation was rife wether this blocked filter would trigger a fault code or not. Agreeable the filters in the injectors (yes everyone these CR injectors actually have filters) would trigger a fault code but the one inside the pressure pump ....... I continue to question. You have to remove the starter and remove the filter via a small allen key plug underneath the pressure pump ....... and it was clean. Another dead end!
Googling and looking at the intake flaps it is a fair sized job. The EGR is already blocked off. I am only going to get a chance to do it next week so it means going away with a low powered tow vehicle again .
