Hi Everyone
I have a 1998 3liter v6 Pajero 2nd Gen ,My belt tensioner pulley is starting to moan ,i have removed it and gave it a bit of oil but its getting worse ,Do you know whether i can remove the bearing and just replace the bearing, as i would do on a landy's or do i have to buy the whole pulley ,of course at a stupid price from the stealers ,any info would be welcome
Thanks

Firstly, Welcome to the forum.
I could only find them from the dealers. They are very pricey.
You might find a company that can rebuild them for cheaper but I couldn't.

Thanks a lot marius ,i have to say this is not good news ,my brothers Landy only needed a bearing which cost 50.00 which we replaced ourselves ,i hoped that this might be the same .Then again i suppose if you drive a car that doesn't break you pay more if it does

Always shop around. I'm in East London so my choice of spare shops are limited.
NOTE : I have found that the mitsu dealers sell some stuff cheaper than the pirate parts.

,I thought it was my main belt tensioners ,it was not .I removed them both and repacked it with grease (read forced grease into the little gap with my finger) and they seem ok ,no sticky bits in the bearing and also virtually no noise when spinning them around the bearing .What i did see was that my aircon belt was brown with dried mud and that the guid it was running in was also brown with a little bit of congealed sand ,this after i cleaned my engine over the weekend .so i removed my bashplate ,got in there and cleaned it out ,also oiled my belt a little bit on the outside ,moaning gone so hopefully i saved myself 465.00 x2 .so far so good ,no more noises .

I heard that the belt idlers are the same as VW 4-cyl engine's.
If so, VW pirate parts are dirt cheap!
Marius, you have both (6G72 and VW 4-cyl), check for sizes.

It can possibly work if the offset and width is not too bad. You might have to change or machine the bolt but I highly doubt it.
The VW pulley is for a MK3 1.8 jetta and can be obtained from goldwagen for under R100.
The VW pulley is definitely smaller in diameter but from memory the width should be the same.
The pulley will spin faster than designed as the harmonic damper on the mitsu is larger than the crank sprocket on the VW plus the smaller diameter will add to the rpm.
It is worth a try at that price - stay away from motopart and topran parts. Get Febi or Meyle.
Don't overtighten the bolt holding the pulley onto the carrier - it kills the bearings and grease seal!
Note that the VW pulley has an offset hole that I would put closest to the belt when assembling so it doesn't create slack should the bolt work slightly loose and allow it to twist.
See VW pulley assembly instruction below

This is great

Thank you so much ,you went through a lot of trouble to get me this info and i really appreciate it .Hopefully i can roll a rock out of the way for you sometime .
Two questions though ,you said that the revs will be higher ,does that mean that the cars revs will be higher as well (read fuel consumption

) If so i'm sure it won't be by much and will this have a negative effect on my altenator as it will also then have higher revolutions ?
