Struggling to idle

I have been having intermittent problems with the idling. Was fluctuating between 500 and 1000 rpm the past ten days or so with the orange light coming on intermittently. This afternoon after having driven 35km's or so and stopped at the shops I started the Paj and it died three times when depressing the clutch. After about 800 meters it seemed OK again.

Any ideas as to what might be causing this?

Terry I am sure you have a duff connection somewhere Check the plugs to your sensors and engine management. next one check and maybe clean the stepper motor

Without sounding completing ignorant, where would I find the stepper motor and what function does a stepper motor play in my MV. I have 12 in my bomb disposal robot and I know exactly what they do but havent the foggiest what it would do in terms of engine management.

So I dropped my Pajero off at Freek to sort out the problem. Its been there since Tuesday. Phoned him to find out what was wrong and he said he thinks its the fuel pressure. Phoned him again the next day and he says he has tested the fuel pump and no problem there. Now he thinks its the air flow meter and hoping to test it by changing it out. He will let me know this afternoon.

Having had a look at the price of these things I'm hoping its not the air flow meter. On the other hand, if its not, then we're no closer to knowing the problem. Hmmmm....
