Pajero Error Code help

Hi Guys,

I have a Jap Import Pajero 3.2DiD '02 Model. The car has an intermittent fault that culminates in the engine management light coming on.

I will try to describe the fault. This morning on my way in to work i noticed that the vehicle was revving differently. I was only doing 110km/h and noticed the revs were up around 2800rpm which is way too high they should probably be around 1800rpm (dont quote me on that), then in an instant the revs drop to around 1200rpm even though my foot has remained in the same position on the throttle. Then if i just accelerate slightly the revs jump back up to where they were in an instant. Immediately the engine management light came on. Then when i pull off from the traffic light the vehicle is running but accelerate very very slowly as if i am only just touching the throttle. Even if i put my foot flat the vehicle doesnt respond.

My mechanic put the vehicle on a diagnostic computer and got a few error codes. One he says is only for the petrol motor so that does not make sense but not a stress in my opinion. The code he thought was serious was EGR Sensor fault which he says is related to the exhaust gas recirculation system. He then checked it out and said the EGR valve was clogged and had to be cleaned. He cleaned and asked me to test the vehicle and see if the fault has gone. Needless to say it has not!

The other 3 faults were CAN comm fault, APR1 and APR2. He says that these are computer based faults and i would have to take it to a specialist in SA ( I live in Botswana ). Could anyone help me as to what the APR1 and 2 codes are and if there is any way i can get my hands on a list of pajero error codes. I also would like to get contacts of someone who could assist with ecu/computer related issues in Johannesburg.

Unfortunately since the Pajero is a jap import the dealers in Bots and SA will not touch it. Not good for me.

ANy help will be much appreciated.

Glen

Glen,
Are you sure that the dealers "will not touch" your import? Have you taken the car to a dealer?

The last 3 codes you mention are not onboard diagnostic codes as they should start with P/B/C/U and followed by a 4 digit number, so they must be thrown by something else. Have a look at http://www.obd-codes.com/

There is a 2003 Montero manual here which might help
