Hi everyone,
I am busy with planning of a trip to Tanzania for June July next year. The trip will be plus minus 10,000 Km. SA to Botswana to Zambia to Tanzania to Kenya to Malawi and back home.
I am looking for inputs from technical or experienced guys or girls on spares to take with.
I am driving a 1999 SWB Pajero, 3.5 V6 with 143,000 on the clock.
Currently with other trips I have radiator hoses, Fanbelts, petrol filter, oil filter, fuzes, headlamp bulps as spares.
Any other ideas on spares will be appreciated.

Break fluid, coolant, oil, Pratley steel and clear, multi meeter, spare wires, insulation tape, duct tape, common nuts & washers for suspension, spare wheel nuts, Gum-gum,,,,, The list goes on and on and one could end up with a trailer full of spares. The above and what you mentioned is what I will have with me in Namibia. Oh, and my fishing rod
Thanks, will add it to the list. As you say, the spares bin is only that big!! Especially in a SWB.

Hello Wilfred,
I just got a list of what to pack for camping and it gives a broad spectrum of stuff that you should remember when you pack for a trip. Its manly focused on camping but hope it will help.

Did Kgalagadi, Lesotho, Tzaneen, Cederberg and towing offroad caravan most of the time. No spares used only fuel and oil. Had cambelt and plugs done and major service.
Remember you have a Pajero.
If one wants to cover all bases then remember a coffin for yourself.

We've done that trip 2 years ago in a Hilux. You'll be on tarred roads most of the time , with some sections that are really terrible. Garvel roads on Serengeti/Ngorogoro are terrible and will break jerrycan holders like twigs. Only spares needed were a few fuses, ropes and some radiator sealant we used to help another car.
Dar Es Salaam has major car service / repair shops. You will need to learn some Kiswahili to to communicate with locals esp in the rural areas.
Look for the trip report on the SA4x4community website or mail me at andre.rentals@gmail.com for more info.

If you have a diesel motor, take a spare diesel filter as you never know when you get dirty diesel or some water in it when filling up in Africa. The other thing is the fan belt. Take a photo of your belt route with phone in case it breaks so that you know how to put a spare back. Puncture repair kit is a must too.
Good luck.
