Wild Coast Eco Trail - part of it

Annette and I needed a bit of a break after the December holidays (which consisted of entertaining friends and family!).
I had a project meeting in Aliwal North on Thursday, so we decided to make a long weekend of it .
After the meeting in Aliwal North, we drove back towards the coast and booked in at Trennery's.
Trenneries is perfect for what we neede. Quiet, comfortable, affordable. We could just "muf" and rest.
On saturday we decided to drive to the Jakaranda Ship Wreck
We followed the "long way" round, but if it was not for T4A map, we would have got lost. There are no sign posts anywhere! A few days earlier, the hotel management had to recover a 4x4 which could not make the first km from the turn-off! We drove right up to the rocks near the wreck, adding a few scratches to the Touareg!
The wreck has deteriorated a lot, and only about 30% of the ship is still intact.
On out way back, we decided to take the "short-cut" via part of the Eco Trail.
Again, without T4A, it would have been absolutely impossible to follow the track, which is not a road, but just a track through very rough country.
The crossing through the Qolora river was fun. Not deep, but very tricky.
In retrospect, I would not advise anybody to do this trail on their own.
After the ample rains of the past few weeks, the Transkei black turf provided a lot of "fun" moments, especially the last stream crossing.
The semi-AT tyres on the Touareg (Pirelli Scorpion ATS) did not really make things easier, either. (I wish i can afford those BFGs!)
I was so busy driving that I did not have much time for photographs.
Next time I will take another vehicle or two with and document it properly.
The beauty of this is that it is only 120km from home!
