My 1999 2.8 has just been re-built but unfortunately this was done in Botswana. The vehicle is NOT an import.
The re-build was as a result of a blown head. The problem is that it still uses a lot of oil. No smoke at start up but if I allow it run for 5-10 min. and then hit the gas.. it blows clouds of BLUE smoke!! At iidol i would say the turdo it not doing mush.. I have tested the blow-by but an not sure if its still rings / turbo / or valve seals.. can any one help as it under warrenty but i'll bring it home to SA to get fixed. its done 4000 since the work. cheers rob (the Aussie).

My firs check would be to check that the turbo is not the culprit. It could be a simple thing as an obstructed oil return pipe or could be oil seals on the turbo itself. The mitsu td04 turbo is a pretty tough little devil but seals generally don't like overheating. If you remove the turbo and the head side of the unit is wet with oil it is on the engine side, if on the exhaust side it is the turbo. As far as I know there are overhaul kits available for the td04 but I would recommend that you have it done by an expert in turbos, the thought of bits spinning in excess of 220k rpm and something going wrong is not pleasant

Thanks mate.. I will get this tested ASAP. I cant see any smoke while travelling but then again i'm sitting on the bumper!!
Next time i'm in SA i'll look for a turbo guy... I've been told by some that these engines dont do well after a re-build.
I'm a Landcruiser man back in OZ so dont know much about Mitsubishi.. Thanks.. for the help..
