Hi,
I drive a 1994 V6 3l SWB Pajero.
Im having some problems with it we cant figure out.
The engine often starts missing, it feels like tapping the brakes on and off, after driving some distance, say 80Km or more, and gets worse and worse until creeping along at 60km/h. It seems to happen when the air temp outside is warm since its ok in the morning, worst in the evening.
I get no error code and no warning light. Put in new transistor and coil, fuel filter, new sparkplugs and the optical crank position sensor in the distributor looks like its still new.
If I switch off and restart the engine (while driving), it runs great again for another ~ 50km then the missing starts again.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Kyle
either the MAF as mentioned or you have deteriorating plug leads that are known for acting up when the heat rises.
I would try and replace the plug leads first, then petrol filter.
I have succesfully cleaned my Passat's MAF with electrokleen and it sorted the driveability issues I had but they say it's not recommended for the Mitsu MAF.
At the price of a replacement MAF (sit down when you phone the dealers as they are the only people that stock them - I had to get one imported from a friend in the USA ) I would chance a clean with electrokleen. Spray electrokleen in a glass and soak the bottom pickup part for about 5 minutes. Then spray for 10 seconds from 30cm away. Soak again and spray again.
LET IT DRY VERY WELL in a ventilated area - NOT the sun!
See how it goes.
Alternatively you can use alcohol (medical grade - NOT whiskey
) as soaking agent.

Thanks for the replies,
Ok, Ill see if I can clean it. There are stacks of pajeros here in botswana so might be able to find a spare.
Im not so sure its a heat problem though, since restarting the engine quickly while driving fixes the problem for a while, and it cant cool down in that time?
