Irregular Idling

Hi - I am new around here.
Just received my 3.2DiD 2006 back from an engine re-build. Cylinders 2 and 3 seized, head cracked, pump shaft bent. Happens when you fill up up with dirty diesel at Total garages = story for another day.
Rebuild was done by a Mits Dealer.
After fitting the engine they battled for 3 days trying to sort out some serious irregular idling. When the engine is cold, no problem.
When at normal operating temperature with vehicle at stand still, the engine "hunts" in short bursts. The revs go high enough to engage the gearbox, causing a lurching movement forwards and backwards.
The "hunting" goes away when the accelarator is depressed and the refs go above 1200rpm.
I noted the post on gearbox oil changes, etc. The gearbox oil was not changed in this instance.
ECU reset was done.
Any suggestions
Now if anyone can give suggestions where I can go to with regards to contaminated diesel - would love to have the diesel tested and then hopefully have a (futile) go at Total.
