Hi sorry guys if i shoulnt be here as im from Brisbane but i have posted in other forums and had no answers, hopefully someone here can help me.

I have a 1992 pajero NH GLS 3.0L V6, i have never owned a 4x4 before so everything is new to me and i also dont know much about cars(im a woman haha), all i know is there is a ticking noise from my engine and i also get some white/blue smoke which happens when idle for a couple of minutes and i press to accelerator to set off. I have been to a mechanics and i had the oil changed, and the engine flushed he told me that it would get better the more i drove it which is a load of s@*! as its done absolutely nothing, he is now telling me because that hasnt worked its the stem valves or lifters and will cost me $5000 at the least to strip down the engine. I dont want to do this as the cars not worth much is there any suggestions as to what i can do (or get my partner to do) to solve the problem as i dont trust the mechanic as he also lied to me about my safety certificate when it was tested and charged me well over.

I have another issue with the car when i start it up on my driveway and i reverse the car it feels as if its going to cut out and judders, sometimes it completely dies but then starts first time afterwards, what can be causing this?

One last problem the radio in the car keeps going off randomly and the ariel going down and then coming back up when it wants to which is annoying.

Please can someone help me with any of these problems???

Thanks
Cjmwlove

Hi, everyone is welcome.

As to you problems you'll find some good info and trouble shooting from the senior members of this forum.

I dont know much about engine problems but as to the radio you can start by letting someone look for a bad wiring connection on the power to the radio from the battery. The aerial (if the radio and aerial is factory fitted) usually gets power directly from the radio.

your ticking is the lifters - they are known for that - not a bad thing when they tick but shortened oil change intervals can cure them OR extra 400ml oil over and above the full mark. Caltex (chevron) delo 400 cured my lifter tick.

also check this link

The smoking is the valve stem seals - only option is to replace at the machine shop. Don't fall for the additives that thicken the oil - they hide the problem and give worse problems later on - SLUDGE!

The funny running is probably a dirty MAF sensor.

The radio is probably a faulty ground connection.

4e Pikaninni has covered it all in the first post.

I have done the CALTEX Delo 400 -thing, and it works!

I suggest you consider to replace the lifters and valve stem seals when you replace the cambelt (cambelts are to be replaced every 100 000 km). If the smoke is unbearable and your cambelt is not close to be due for replacement, you can do it separately.

Do a search (see right-top of page) on MAF - there is a lot of info about this part of technology to read.

Regards,
Anton

Hi there,

Welcome to our Forum (I do think you're our 1st Australian member)

Definately what the above guys have mentioned, they all know their stuff.

Your radio is definitely an intermittent power connection, probably caused by a loose wire.

To clean your MAF sensor, click on the following topic: https://www.pajeroclub.co.za/forum/view ... 230#p14014

Hope you manage to sort out your problems through this forum, and that you stay happy with your Pajero.

Best regards
Ned

Hi, just an update on how im getting on with the problems. The lifters have now been replaced but the car is still ticking  and i have tried the dello 400 trick but still ticking :( .

The car manual says it needs about 5litres from empty so i did this but still the ticking is there, do you think i need to put more oil in ontop of this, i only bought the 5l bottle. If not can anyone suggest what else could be causing the ticking noise.

Thanks :)
