Cleaning my MAF on 2005 3.8V6 LWB Paj.(Posted on request of Mcnoogle)
Driving in town a while ago my Paj stalls as soon as I took my foot of the accelerator. I asked for help on the form and the answer was either the MAF of the fuel pump. My son a very good diesel mac told me to clean the MAF with ELECTRO CLEAN. Step on how it was cleaned. 1. Remove all electrical wiring. 2. Remove the rubber hose from the MAF to the throttle body. 3. Remove the 4 bolts holding the MAF meter to the air cleaner box (word of caution when assembling the MAF to the air cleaner box do not over tighten the bolts I have cracked my box and had to repair it with Q bond). 4. Spray the MAF with electro clean from both sides I used about half the can. 5. I covered the MAF in a clean rag and left to dry for about an hour. My fuel composition before the exercise was 5.5km/l no matter how I was driving or towing the off road trailer, my Paj also had a very rich fuel smell hot or cold (the local dealer in Witbank could not adjust the fuel mixture as there special tool was missing in action no problem made my own ((I know, my model have a mechanical air fuel mixture adjustment on the side of the air box)). Please don’t ask me technical questions on these fancy vehicles I am old school give me point and side drafts and 8 cylinders and I am happy. After the exercise the fuel consumption went up to 7.3km/l on the open road and 6.2km/l in town. This however is a short term solution in most cases as my rich fuel smell is back, the fuel consumption is still the same and the stalling has not happened again. Hope this wil help some one
Cheers
