Hi

Can someone who has fitted an EGT system to their 3.2 Di-D please post a pic of where they fitted the probe to? I want to fit mine but would appreciate some assistance with this.

Thanks.

Does one simply drill a hole, tap it, insert the probe, run the wire through to your dashboard and connect the display unit to power?

In a nutshell, yes. Be carefull who you allow to drill and weld a bung. Do it wrong and you will crack a very expensive exhaust manifold.

Here is my installation.

If I have to do it again, I would do it differently.

Why?
  • the probe in it's current position registers an average EGT for the four cylinders (which is fine for
    • pump tuning,
    • air cleaner element condition
    • driving style
    • etc.
  • it is however highly unlikely to pick up over-fuelling on one cylinder! (which I have now realised is the most likely fatal failure).
My suggestion:
  • MGL 4-channel guage
  • 4 x Type K probes,
  • each fitted as close to the head on the outlet ports of the 4 cylinders on the manifold

4e, what would a setup like yours with 4 probes cost then?

I agree with 4E regarding the 4 probes as it would probably give a better indication per cylinder.

I have had mine done the cheap and nasty way, but I am still happy with the results. Definately not as neat as 4E's one and obviously not as accurate, but still effective as far as I can tell. But a lot easier to install as the hole was drilled and tapped on the EGR section of the manifold which is not covered by anything that had to be removed.

I bought my stuff many moons ago.
