I took two photos of my 3.2 DID air inlet - one wit the bonnet open and the other with the bonnet closed. It sure looks to me like the air is restricted getting into the intake? The gap between the bonnet and plastic grill is so narrow I can't see how the intake gets enough free flowing air. Or am I off base here?

It sucks the air in from the sides isnt it?

It does not take air from the front off the grill, hence why some report that with water coming over the bonnet the engine didn't die.

The air sucked from inside the engine bay to that front area. It is designed as such, as a water wading (provided you keep moving) will move all the water to the back against the firewall and the last area inside the engine bay that will fill with water is right there where the intake sits.

If you look carefully at the rubber seals etc. you will see the path the air takes.

I removed part of the rubber seal in front of the intake to encourage extra cool air to the intake (I'm scared of deep water and don't go anywhere near it!)

I thought it looked funny. That snorkel sounds more and more like a plan - cooler cleaner air.
