Coolant and air-conditioner
On my 1994 Pajero LWB I have a hed-scratching problem: when driving normally (no air-conditioner) I do not use any coolant and the temperature remains constant in the middle of the range.

However, the moment I switch the air-conditioner on, I notice that the temperature rises and I have to top up when the temperature reaches a high level. When I say 'top up' I mean using about 3 - 5 liters of water in the reservoir and the radiator as both are pretty dry. Additionally, my passenger complains about wet feet on her side of the footwell - only when the air-con is on! But at least her feet are always cool and clean in hot weather :)

I will be doing a complete radiator / cooling system flush this week - should I be looking at anything else - heater matrix, burst pipes, etc?

Re: Coolant and air-conditioner
jip. Heater matrix. Not too difficult to get to on the pajero. Be glad it's not a jetta. That is a real PITA

12.1MB time lapse gif file of jetta heater core (been there, done that) - Dealer quotes over R10k for such a job on the jetta
