Caltex Delo 400
Hi Guys,

Obviously there have been numerous discussions and references to Caltex Delo 400.

I have read so many topics on this that I'm now rather confused.

My Paj as you all know is old, and not in showroom condition (doesn't even have a service history)
so Mitsu approval or not, I need to know finally,
1) Is it ok to use Delo 400 in my Petrol Engine.
2) Is it ok to overfill by 500ml.

Anton, cant remember if you have a petrol, if it is a petrol then I'll take that as my answer. :D

Thanks for your patience
Re: Caltex Delo 400
Hi Ned,

It should be fine as the one i am using and most others are Multi grade for Diesel and Petrol engines.
as for the overfill..... i did it and i havent had my low level oil light come on again
But thats my opinion :D

Delo 400 Multi grade or
Delo 400 Super Premium Diesel Oil ( I use this one)
Johan,

I use the same as you (Delo 400 Super Premium Diesel Oil - 15W40).

I actually thought that the 15W40 is a reference to multigrade (MULTIGRADE = An oil that has a wide viscosity or thickness range.) - therefore my understanding is that the one you (and I) use is one of the Multigrade derivatives offered by Caltex.

Maybe the lubrication fundi's here can help us out.

Anton

Re: Caltex Delo 400
I have used it in

1995 jetta 1.8 petrol
1993 3.0 v6 pajero petrol
2001 3.2 Di-D pajero diesel

all of them were running beautiful and I overfilled all of them by 500ml.

Ned,

Mine is a 3.5 petrol, same as yours. I am using Delo400, and I over-filled by ±8mm on the dipstick.

The lifter noise returned (only when cold, and only for ± 5 - 10 sec) after 2000 km, but prior ir was noisy trough-out the day. The noise only subsided after I over-filled. Now and again one lifter is "hardkoppig" and continue to make noise, and that is sorted by the "revving protocol". That happens ± once in 2 weeks.

If this doesn't work, you will have to live with the noise till the next big job (cambelt), and then make a bigger job of it, and replace them.

I cannot guarentee that it is safe to overfill, but I have done it - knowing it is at own risk. I checked for bubbles on the dipstick, but never found any.

I say "goo for it" (at your own risk, of course!
