Where to get cambelt for old Pajero (4D56 engine)

I am not a Pajero owner, but wonder if anyone can help.
I have a friend in Zimbabwe whose Pajero engine packed up and he replaced it with a "grey import" Pajero engine from Japan as this was all that was available. Engine is a 4D56 EY9859. He would like to change the cambelt before any problems but can not find out the type or part number. Local agents here in JHB and Mitsubishi SA can not help me. Also were can I buy this item for him. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ian ,
Is there no markings on the old belt? Any numbers ?
Maybe he should measure the length and maybe that way it will be easier to find a belt .
He should keep in mind it is best to always change the tensioners whether hydraulic or mechanical with the belt.

The 4D56 to my knowledge is a 2.5 Diesel, in which case it should have a timing chain, not a cambelt. In that case all he needs to do is to check (and replace, if needed) the chain guide.
You can search "chain guide" on this site - there is a lot of info on that here.

Anton, the 4D56 motor is quite different to the 4M40 and 4M41 and does indeed use a timing belt.

Get one from the Hyundai dealer. The H100 bakkie uses the Mitsubishi 4D56 engine.
The Mitsu dealers should have it in stock as well. The old box shape Colt LDVs used this engine as well.
Good belt suppliers carry 3rd party items as well.
To my best knowledge, the part no is MD134377

This thread only has real value if you confirm the Part No and where you got it from.
