Engine lights come on when accelarating

My 2005 LWB GLS DiD has just had its 120,000km service at the agents in Paarden Eiland. It seemed to lack some power after the service, so I took it back for them to check. They say the ECU reports that there is overboost when pushing it. The engine light comes on and the engine drops power going into a 'safe' mode. It can be reset by lifting your foot off the acellerator.

I had not noticed this before the service and only saw it happening twice on a recent 4000km trip. My complaint was that the car lacks some 'oomph' at stop streets and when overtaking compared to the way it was before the service. Not that it was cutting out.

I now have two problems:

1. The lack of 'oomph'
2. The overboost

The agent say that the overboost can be due to a loose wire, faulty sensor or the wastegate needing a clean. It is going back on Monday.

What do they do in the 120,000km service that can change things? Why did the diagnostics not show the overboost when they serviced the car?

Cleaning the wastegate solved the problem

different things can cause that

faulty mechanical timing
broken or disconnected hose between turbo inlet housing and wastegate
broken or disconnected hose between inlet manifold and boost pressure sensor
faulty boost sensor
faulty wastegate
wastegate arm over adjustment

The dealers do not check the ecu for codes unless there is a reported problem.

Excellent :)

Mine has done the same... haven't done anything yet, but I also suspected a "sticky" wastegate. https://www.pajeroclub.co.za/forum/view ... =24&t=2390

I'll try clean it myself sometime soon!

cleaning the wastegate is probably not a difficult job if all goes to plan but snap a bolt and it becomes a nightmare.

Start spraying those bolts with penetrating oil everyday.

It may also be a simple issue like the hose from boost side of turbo to wastegate diaphragm might have perished or come off.
