Diesel pump timing - must setting be on turbo or non-turbo, and why?
Mine is on non-turbo and working fine. Just for my info.
Diesel pump timing is a (fixed, mechanical) setting of when during the revolution of the engine, the injector fires.
It has nothing to do with the turbo.
Edit: Ah! After the subsequent posts, I gather that there are two marks on the timing gear.
It should be simple though. Turbo for tiurbo engines, and Non-turbo for NA engines.

On the pump sprocket is a notch that lines up with the receiving sprocket mark
N - non turbo
T - turbo
N - non turbo
T - turbo
If the pump timing is wrong what will the symptoms be. The reason I'm asking is, I've just had my engin redone and now it difficulty starting when hot and it did not do this before the engin was redone.
If the pump setting is out by 1 gear tooth, it wil be almost impossible to get it started. If you do manage to start it, there will be a LOT of smoke and it will not want to rev up. You will not be able to drive off and the temperature will rise as fast as the rev counter. I speak from experiance here. If difficult starting is your only problem but otherwise its fine, it is definatly not pump timing (pump gear teeth anyway).
