A random question...
Have any 3.2 owners noticed on long trips (average speed about 110km/h) that their radio and tape cassette slot gets very hot?
This evening, after driving for about 2 hours on the open road, I couldn't hold my finger in the tape cassette slot for longer than a second due to this heat.
Is this just dissipating engine heat?

Never experienced that, even when cruising at 140km/h (GPS speed) my audio system remains cool. Then again, I don't have the cassette player. I have the original Mitsu radio/cd combination.

I have an aftermarket sony frontloader and no such heat on my side.

It's not the engine.... it's the actual radio light that heats it up. You'll find it doesn't do that during the day.
Best advice is to drive without lights at night.
Does it damage the cassette or do you only find it mildly irritating?

Those early Gen3s had a cassette player standard with the front load cd.

As far as I know most radios have heat sink at the rear for that perpose - to cool down. If your radio gets very hot for some reason it might be that there is a fault on the radio and heat sink gets very hot therefore transferring heat to metal parts.(Speaking under correction)

Sound advice, if you want to enter in a BBBEE business venture? Think twice! Make sure your i's are dotted and t's are crossed 
RoelfleRoux - it happens during day and at night and only on long trips - ie. open road. I can't recall if it happens when the radio is on, off or both - will monitor. More an irritation...all my cassettes are stretched... 
Deon - my heater and AC work fine so think probably not, but not 100% sure.

I've got a 2006 Gen3 and i've noticed it happening as well. Not sure if mine get's as hot but I'll monitor and let you know!

It usually gets warm, but on this occasion it was particularly hot.
I suspect it's commoner than we realise in 3.2dids, but not many people feel the need to stick their fingers in the tape cassette slot on long trips...

I used to stick a pencil into the tape slot (thus keeping the little gate open) in the evening, when listening to CDs. I believed this helped to get rid of some of the heat.
