Hi
I travel up into Zim frequently.
Border crossing is the normal stuff. Vehicle Papers, Proof of insurance, Letter from owner or Bank that gives you permission to take vehicle across the Border.
Do not make use of a Runner. Do the walk yourself. You will save a lot of money.
Yes preferred currency is US Dollars and SA Rands. Do your exchange in SA not on the black market.
Make sure that you have Red at the back and white reflecting tape on your vehicle. Normally it is a 40 x 40 square reflecting tape sticker. If you going to tow. Make sure you have a White reflecting T in the front on a Black back ground and a Red Reflecting T on the back of the Trailer on a black back ground. Adhere to the speed limits specially when the speed reduce to 80 or 60 km. They have received about 30 cop BMW from SA with the Radar inside the car to check your speed. Be on the lookout for these guys they will try you. If you are 100% sure you have not exceed the limit do not pay them. If you have to pay insist to get a receipt.
Also make sure that you have your Triangles and a Reflecting Vest in your Vehicle.
Last but not least keep your cool with these guys and at the Border. I got locked up in January because of saying to a guy” Don’t to Act Like an Idiot”
Diesel is available but I did notice that they sometimes keep the Trucks at the Border when they want to increase the Price. Then they only let them threw once the price has been increased. What I normally do there is a Fuel stop about 15 km before Harare where I fill up. The reason is that if there is a shortage it is normally first in Harare and then it spreads outwards. Once you in Harare you can see for yourself if there is long queues at the station or no vehicles at all. Yea the price for Diesel was $1.30. I am not sure but should still be around there.
Yes and please do not stop for guys who tells you have a flat, or there is sparks under your vehicle. I got hit like that in December and was robbed from my Lap top.
I have a friend staying in Harare so if you want his contact just for maybe let me know.
I hope this will assist you
Yea and if you want accomadation on the other side of Border let me know

Thanks 4x4 this was quite enlightening.
I am sure I will get the sticker kit at Outdoor Warehouse.
I have been to Zims a few years ago also on business and experienced the traffic cop thing and yes it was quite an experience. I also got a bit hardegat because I refused to accept the reading on his laser and nearly got locked up for that.
The thing is you can not really argue because they know you have no help there.
I will let you know about place to stay as the company we deal with is well established and I should have an answer tomorrow about that. But if any hickups will let you know.
Regards

Hope you get sorted?
Hope you get sorted?
4x4,
Thanks I have managed to get hold of the red and white stickers and cut them to size explained on the brochure that I got from outdoor warehouse. One can bearely see the white on my bumper as the bakkie is white but neverthe less it is there!
The sizes is minimum 40 x 75 mm and I have just made that size. I have put in extra sticker sheets in case some stupid idiot decides it is too small.
Will inform of trip details once back.
