Hi Anton
It was a magic outing....I'm going to try to do more than once / year, every year
The cottage for rent, electric blankets for the cold evenings, interior braai in the dining/lounge area, the friendly locals who allowed us to traverse their private farms.....all made for a fabulous long weekend away....only 300 odd km's away !!
Regards
Achille

Hi Henk
The simple thing about this area, is that it's just appr 300 km away (in 3.5V6 equation = +- R1100 - R1200 fuel's worth - return)
The nice part is, it's plain, rural & rustic.....quite wholesome and many places to view with the 4x4 (geen platkar nie)
The cottage that's in the photo, has three bedrooms (sleeps 6 people), and is rented for approx. R200/person (depending season / farmer's humour, all linen, kitchen utensils, wood for fires/braaing, fridge, etc, incl).
Loads of places to stop along the way too.....

That is where you cape folks have the advantage

If I do that trip it is at least 2500 km round trip and the way I do things it would be at least 4000km

with at least a three week time span.
Being based in Joburg has its merit, I know the northern areas like the palm of my hand, places like Kruger and such are becoming , dare I say it, boring

and the natal coast and midlands hold no further surprises. On the other hand the west coast and northern cape is new to me and the taste I have had of the eastern cape was awesome. Having the in laws based in Gansbaai has given me the opportunity to get to know the surrounding ares as well as the roads leading to that area better.
Below are a few photos of 4E's back yard, an area with lots of discovery potential and just to keep it on topic the photo of the plant is a kiepersol in the titanium rich red dunes at Mnyamene
