Hi

Anyone been to Macaneta island and recommend any of the resorts on the island.

I believe the roads can be quite hectic on the island.

Any thoughts appreciated, we thinking of a trip in Dec with the Paj :D .

Maccarron,

I have been there a few times. Macaneta is a nice little island where one can relax and enjoy time in the sun. Dont expect lots of stuff to do other than braai, swim, tan etc. There are a few places to stay, but I recommend the follwoing:

Lugar Do Mar : http://www.facebook.com/#!/profile.php? ... 95&sk=info (this is a house in the Lugar Do Mar resort owned by a friend)

Cova: http://www.cova.co.za I have stayed here a few times and it is very nice. Roelie's gang keep it nice and tidy.

The road from the ferry to the resorts, is the roughest - it is a dirt muddy road in poor condition, but not too long. The roads are ok in your Pajero, especially now before the rainy season. When it gets wet it gets muddy and 2x4's have great difficulty moving about. The other roads on the island are sandy bits.

Book early as it gets busy in December and allow for enough time at the border around that time - lots of people move through it during the holidays. You can also enter Moz via Swaziland at the Namaacha border post to avoid the rush.

Macanetta is very nice place to visit - just been there last week. Road is in extremely good condition - drove it in a car - we only got stuck driving from Tan a Biki to the beach (we should not have tried to get that close!). Border can be time consuming, driving trough Maputo a nightmare and you might wait a while to get a place on the ferry. BUT it is all worth it.

Road can be more difficult in the rainy season, but they have upgraded it since we were there about years ago.
You Pajero will love it however.

You can also try: tan a Biki: http://www.tanbiki.co.za/

Make sure you get clear diretions to get there and try not to travel after dark. Make sure you know all procedures for entry to Mozambique and you will have a very good time!
Enjoy!

Thanks for the info, appreciated.

All booked, went for Cycad Lodge - it seems to be pretty much full everywhere else that time of year.

Hoping my brother wont have a problem with his 2x4 Isuzu :?: , but the Paj - no problem :D
