IDLE AND BACKFIRE?

Hi Guys,
Earlier today i drove to town with my 3.5 Gen 2, 1997. I got back home and stop, no problem.
Later me and ma wanted to go to shops, when i started the vehicle seems to idle on one ore two pistons, and backfire from exhaust and intake?
Shut down an tried again, but it wont start, just backfires. It seems as if the timing has gone?
Can this be a timing belt that has slipped a tooth (or two)?
Please guys i am desperate, advise please?
