Delo 400 and Modern Diesel Engines

2. The diesel with the lowest sulphur content available in our country is diesel with 50ppm sulphur. I s this sulphur content much higher than the sulphur content in diesel used in the UK ?

3. Will the high sulphur content (50ppm) be damaging to the new generation diesel engins?

4. How much does the sulphur content in diesel contribute to the bad deposit and carbon build-up in the combustion chamber of a diesel enjin.

Hi Waldo,

Please find a copy of the product data sheet attached for Delo 400 Multigrade - as you can see this grade is suitable for a wide range of vehicles including those fitted with EGR and SCR emission controls. It is not suitable for vehicles fitted with DPF's that require an ACEA E6 or E9 product (Low SAPS).
The grades I mentioned are low ash and have the necessary performance specifications/approvals to show this (example ACEA E9 and API CJ-4).

As of 2009, the sulphur limit for road fuels in the UK was 10ppm, but previously the limit was up to 500ppm maximum.
The vehicle manufacturer's take into consideration the quality of the fuels available in geographic areas and develop their systems accordingly.


We always advise that the vehicle manufacturer's recommendation for engine oil and fuel quality is followed.

Maybe its just me, but I'm not sure the guy responding to your emails is 100% clued up - he doesnt really address all your questions...?

I'm not really sure what he's saying? Delo 400 not good then for us with DPF's...?

I doubt the people answering these mails have had years of chemical experience, training and hands on experience.

All these mails that have been answered on various forums strike me as cut and paste from a template answers.

Please read the response from Chevron in the post about 2SO in youre diesel. In that response it is mentioned what Delo oil should be used with DPF's. Here is the datasheet for that oil mentioned:

This is where I need help from you guys. Is DPF's installed in the latest Pajeros and if yes, what year model was the first Pajeros in SA with DPF's ?

If I can be sure of my facts I can take it up with Chevron (Caltex in SA) why we can no buy Delo 400 LE 15w-40 in SA.

Please send proof of DPF's installed in The Local Pajeros. My Pajero is a 2003 model and they deffenitely came without DPF's.

PS. We must be careful to make assumptions. My opinion is that big companies (eg. Chevron) can not afford to allow a person to give answers on the internet, under their name and letterhead which can not be taken as the truth.
