East London : Eco Trail 28 Jan
Hi

I would like to do the eco trail route from Kei Mouth to Mazeppa this coming weekend.

My plan is to drive Friday after work to Kei Mouth - 76km - (and sleep over at Double Mouth camp site) and make a curry chicken potjie (feeding up to 10 mouths).

Then drive the eco trail the next morning - 67km - have lunch at Mazeppa and drive back to East London via Main route - 170km

I need at at least one partner to accompany me and I'll go. The more the merrier.

A recent thread shows what you are in for (although we won't be driving on the beach)

I will ask Jean to help advise us on the permits necessary.

Might just join you.
Get temporary permits in the mean time.

Jean has informed me that no permits are required provided we stay on the route. Only if we want to drive right down to the wreck is a permit needed.

Surely you want to visit the Jakaranda ship wreck?

There is a track that leads up to the beach, then the walk to the wreck is a bit more than 150m.
I understand that if you come within 1.5 km of the high tide mark, you need a permit ?

I'm financially forced to not spend the night at Mazeppa.

67km from Double Mouth to Mazeppa. Averaging brisk walking pace will take just over 6 hours at the most. Starting at 8am will provide a finish at 2pm at Mazeppa.

1.5hrs back.

I also have other commitments Saturday PM but I don't want to postpone this trip any longer.

... assuming nobody gets stuck / broken down ;)

Allow 2 hrs for Mazeppa to Ristows.
