Hi Everyone,
I know the 3500 v6 has a common problem of a lifter noise and i've come to live with it. My vehicle has a slight ticking noise only.
I have a question....my vehicle is going in for its 180 000km service and i wanted to know if using a thicker weight oil will take the noise away?
I currently use Delo 400 which is a std 15w 40 if i'm not mistaken.

This is an extraction from the Mitsubishi workshop manual

I have also found that there are 2 different lifters.
1 Has a small hole with about a 1mm hole diameter whereas the revised version has a bigger hole of about 3mm diameter. These bigger hole lifters paired with Caltex delo 400 oil makes them virtually 100% silent

Thanks Marius. Its not a bad noise at the moment. There's a lifter noise for about 5 seconds on start up and a light ticking noise when warm sometimes.
To me it makes no difference as the vehicle only does about 600km's a month. I just thought instead of going this route of cleaning or replacing the lifters i could use a thicker oil.

People around here have another complaint regarding 6G7* engines, which concerns gates (or how do you call them) on the intake manifold. Over time, the axis of these gates becomes loose, which can produce a rattling sound similar to valve lifters running dry. It can range from being a slight nuisance to actually destroying the cylinders, when one of the gates disintegrates and falls into the cylinder.
http://www.pajero4x4.ru/bbs/phpBB2/view ... =2&t=60757 primarily an issue with Paj4 6g75's, but people also reported having similar issue on older 6g74's
I agree that you are already using the right oil (Delo 400).
I overfil my oil by about 4mm (on the dipstick) and it works. Try it...
