Hi, I've got a 1997 V6 3L SWB Pajero and is planning to do some critical maintenance on the engine in the near future as it sits on 185k kms on the clock. The engine is running very smooth but due to the fact that is was standing for 3 years before I got it some seals got hard I suppose (valve stem seals, etc).I am going to do the following; Timing Belt, recon both heads, new clutch kit,new cluth slave cylinder kit (bought it already from Mitsu dealer for R72-00) I am sourcing some spares so long. I would like to know the following please;
I've got some prices at the Mitsu dealer but then I shopped around as well.
1) Mitsu quoted me R971-00 for a new timing belt, I went to Autozone and the asked me R367-00 for a new belt. So I bought it. (major price difference)
I would just like to know if it is the right one. It is a Good year belt and on the box it states that it is for the Pajero 3.0L V6. Some data on the box = G1462H, 187H8P32011, 5446XS/187SHP+320H/94495.
2) Mitsu quoted me R3200-00 for a clutch kit which includes the release bearing, pressure plate and clutch plate. For the same stuff Midas quoted me R1300-00 and Autozone R1500-00. Will these cheaper kits be OK as the Mitsu dealer told me to rather go for them and not the expensive kit by him ???
3) Autozone can only supply the entire engine gasket kit and not for the heads only. Mitsu dealer ask me R2200-00 for the cylinder head kits. Can someone tell me where is the best place to get the heads done please or who can do the job for me as I will supply all the spares. I've haven't got the time to do all this work as I've started a new job and work away from home on projects. Note, I got a quote from well known place already(much to heavy), but there must be someone else out there. I am situated in Witbank. I don't want to compromise quality for money but some places are just ripping us off though. I need someone that knows these motors and have good workmanship.
4) I also want to do the two oil seals on the crank while the engine is out (they are leaking due to that long standing period)
What else should I do or look for whilst I am busy with all this? As mentioned before, the engine runs very smooth except that little bit of smoke now and again due to the valve stem seals.
I am planning to keep this Pajero for another 15 years. I've overhauled most the other stuff on the car. I like it a lot, because its a brilliant vehicle.
Help will be appreciated
