What fuel type on Gen 2?
Hi to everyone here, I'm a real newbie, to this site and to owning a 4x4.
Ive got a 1994 Pajero 3.0 v6 LWB A/T and I am not too sure what fuel type I should use, I have been putting unleaded, but I am scared that this is not right as it is a old model. Then my other question is I roughly get 4km/l and would really like to get to the 6km/l mark at least, is there something I could do or get done to improve the consumption that wont cost a fortune?

Thanks in advance for any help

Re: What fuel type on Gen 2?
you can use either unleaded or LRP - just try to use the highest octane you can find.

As far as economy is concerned realise that they are heavy on fuel.

check tyre pressure - maybe go up to 2.3 bar to save on economy.
do a full service - fuel filter, diff(s) oil change, transfer case oil change, gearbox and engine oil with filter. New air filter.

Have the ignition timing checked if it's a distributor type 3.0 V6. (5 degrees BTDC in Gauteng - 7 degrees BTDC at the coast)

Threads below to study up on the timing

Re: What fuel type on Gen 2?
Thanks a lot for the reply. What oil should I change the diffs, gearbox and transfercase with, is it a special oil or can I use like normal ATF?

Thanks again for the help so far!

Re: What fuel type on Gen 2?
this might be a stupid question, but for what reason should I use the highest octane I can get, which is probably 95 here in Jozi?

Thanks

Re: What fuel type on Gen 2?
Pierra,
I have a 3.5 and uses highest octane Shell and found that to be the best for my car - do not why it works better but it does.
My D4D is sluggish with Sasol and as soon as I use Shell the same thing. So I use Shell whenever possible.

Thanks, I will give it a try. I also believed in shell for a long time, but with the petrol prices going through the roof, I found that I got more km/l with caltex on my previous car and hve been trying to use only caltex from then, not too sure what it will be like with the pajero, but only time will tell!
