Hi there
I have a little noise on the motor at low rpm(3l v6),almost like a little bell ringing.I think its the tensioner pulley bearing or maybe the runner pulley below it(there is some play on them both),now for the question-it looks like the thing is a unit.Is there a way to just change the bearing or do i have to replace the whole pulley?
are you referring to the 2 brown pulleys in this pic?

This is the VW 4pot cambelt tensioner pulley

And this is the accesory belt tensioner pulley

take one off and as mentioned go to midas/goldwagen and see if it will work. The size difference is not too important but the width and offset is crucial.

That picture of the accesory pulley that you posted,is that also of vw?
Yes. That is off most 4 cylinder vw pre 2000 engines.Henk wrote:That picture of the accesory pulley that you posted,is that also of vw?

I decided to try something new,i took the old pulley and machined the old bearing out and then made a shaft so that i can just replace the bearing if it fails again. So next time i'll just buy a 6006 bearing and press it in!
BS!
Without photographs, there is no proof that it ever happened!

haha okay, when i do the other one i will take some pics,i never even thought of taking any pics while i did this one-my bad

Drove back from a trip and I could hear a bearing whine-luckily close to home-it went quiet! Got home and I checked what it was,my home made runner wasn't running 100% true,so it ate the bearing to the extent that the bearing cracked
So I guess my machining skills isn't up to par
Bought one from the stealers (R500) and know it should be running for a long time still

Do you gents think it's a worthwhile expense to replace those pulleys at the 90k cam belt service? The service will get done under the maint plan, so theoretically I'll only pay for the pulleys.
