Heat Shields

Hi

What would be the effect, if any, of removing the heat shields from the exhaust manifolds and downpipes?

I heard today that they were installed for colder climates so that the engine reaches its efficient operating temperature sooner. They are not necessary in our warmer climate and removing them would help remove heat from the engine and be of some benefit(possibly fuel consumption)?

Regards,

JohnDG

The heat shields are there to limit the radiated heat transfered to the floor boards.
