Hi.
i would like to know if anybody can help me with the engine code 25 and 43 I have showing on my 2006 3.2 Eceed Diesel Pajero.
These 2 codes points to the Diesel injector pump being faulty.
This is a very expensive unit to replace and i am not certain that it is faulty.
This is the story.
My son drove the car to the fuel station to fill it up. As he aprouched the fuel station the car ran out of Diesel. He got the the fuel station on free weeling the car up to the pump.
Filled it up and then started it.
At first the car did not want to start(Obviously needed bleeding) After a couple of attempts the car started but the engine warning light came on and also the 2 traction controle lighst with it.
The car was driven for around 30km in town traffic before I got to it.
By this time the the engine ran smooth and all was good except for the x3 warning lights.
I have tried to reset the codes using the MUT11 meter and also by disconnecting the battery. Every time the warning lights will come back.
I have then replaced the fuel fiter thinking that some dirt might have blocked the filter and then bleed the system by pumping the filter bowl full of diesel and then using the manual pump on the filter housing
I also bleed the distribution pump in the only way I know by loosening the injector lines one by one while the motor was running.
The lights would go out for a while and then come back on.
When I drive and put the foot on the fuel pedal hard the lights would go out and then come back on some time later.
As of late the lights would come on and go out at there own will with it staying on more that what it would be off.
The codes both leads to the fuel pump and I am sure if it was the fuel distribution pump then the lights would just simply stay on regardless.
If I leave the car in park and i pick up the revs slowly to around 2500rpm the engine would then make a diesel fuel knock sound while reving(Lights on at this stage)
The lights would then go off and the knocking sound would go away only to come back on again same seconds later.
I am certain this is coused by air trapped in the pump somewhere but for some reason just cannot get this out.
Is there no better way of bleeding the system from the fuel tank to the injectors including the filter bowl and definatly the pump assembly.
I have driven the car now for around 3000km with these lights on and can"t get them to go away.
Should i rather sell the car or is there an easier/cheaper way of fixing this.
PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Hannes
how long did you disconnect the battery?
leave it disconnected overnight to be certain all codes are cleared.

Hi.
Wow Thanks for the quick reply.
I have left the battery disconnecter for around 20 minutes or so.
I live here in Australia and it is now 8H45 PM so the next thing i sure am going to do is the disconnect it and only connect it again tomorrow morning.
Does it make sense though that if the pump was faulty it would have given me a hard fault and not inttermiited as it does now.
I will let you know how I go with this one.
Thanks

those ecu's behave funny but i recall that more than 20 minutes is required to clear the engine ecu.
Note that the gearbox ecu (if yours is an auto) will also be cleared so expect funny shifting from the gearbox for a few days until it relearns itself.

Hi Maruis.
It is next morning now and I have reconnected the battery.
No luck it is still all the same.
Yes this is an 5 speed Auto box so I will keep an eye on the gearbox behaviour.
I have to also include that between 2000 and 3000 revs the car does have a knocking sound (incorrect fuel pump timing?)
This sound will be there until the lights goes out then goes away. Well that is if I rev it up to this. Letting go of the fuel pedal will then altimitly bring back the lights.
Any thoughts?

Interesting.
After I have disconnected the battery for the night there was no funny behaviour from the gearbox either.
I am now wondering if one night is enough for resetting everything.
What I have also experianced of late is that when the engine is started cold it tends to have a misfire for a while with black smoke . I am sure this might be a bad glo plug rather than anything to do with the codes though.

Sounds like there is a backup battery somewhere. Disconnect the battery and check the voltage over the removed terminals.
If there's 12v you need to trace the backup source.
When you have left the battery disconnected overnight your idle will be higher, auto gearbox will behave dumb and the centre display clocks will reset date and time.

No Backup Battery. The centre disply did reset but no funny ideling or gearbox issues. I even used the 4 weel drive selection today.
I have disconnected the battery again just now and measured the cables. Now Power over the terminals at all whiles disconnected. I left the battery disconnected.

What about removing the Engine ECU fuse. Where does this live. maybe if I remove the fuse with the battery disconnect?
