How much is enough?
Yesterday I eventually fixed the pressure safety valve on my 2.8 intake manifold. It was opening at 0.6bar boost and sometimes at 0.8bar. By repairing I mean throwing it over the neighbours roof and blanking off the manifold. I know.... it is there for a reason and blah blah blah.....
I now rely on the wastegate to keep things intact!.
But...... it should open at 0.9bar (according to the manual) but the turbo's wastegate is only dumping the excess boost at 1.3bar.
Is that to much?
Re: How much is enough?
Yes that is too much boost, I think the diaphragm on the turbo waste gate is torn. It’s a sealed unit but can be fixed easy and cheap. The diaphragm in the waste gate is the same size as the diaphragm of the manual fuel pump from a citi golf which you can buy at any spares. Just take the diaphragm you remove to them. My friends 2,8 colt had the same problem dealers wanted to change his turbo. We decided to changed the diaphragm by just using a screwdriver and small hammer to open it.
