Gen3 3.2 DiD Oil Change
Hey guys,

I looked everywhere but couldn't find some advice on how to change the oil and filter myself on the Gen 3 3.2 DiD. Searching ignores the word "oil"...

Wondering if this has been covered in DIY on this forum at all. Want to do it myself but mechanically a little challenged :)

Do I need a new sump plug gasket when I take that one off?
How much oil do I need to buy?
What's the correct procedure to change the oil? Engine warm, hot or cold?
How do you use the oil filter chain?

Soz, just hoping there's a nice detailed explanation here somewhere so I don't c**k it up :)

Any help would be appreciated

Re: Gen3 3.2 DiD Oil Change
you need 7litres oil so buy 2x 5l, oil filter, sump plug gasket.
drive car so oil warms up, park on level ground and let stand for 15min so oil drains down into sump, crack the sump plug and let oil drain out, be careful for hot oil, wait some time, if your' changing diesel/air filter do that now while the oil drains out, when there is no more oil draining then remove filter and drop into plastic back immidiatly, carefull for spilling and hot oil.
Make sure you have big container to catch all oil, cleaning oil is not nice.
Clean all surfaces, lightly smear some new oil on the new filter rubber and install, tighten by hand.
Using new sump plug gasket re-install plug, carefull for not to tight.
Dump first 5litres into engine, wait 5min and check dipstick, add more oil untill dipstick is midway between the 2 marks.
start engine and let it run a minute or two, shut off and wait 5min, check dipstick again and top-up.
Go for a short drive, check dipstick, go for long drive so enigne warms properly, wait 5min and check dipstick.
Done.
Check for leaks at filter and plug the following 3 days.
Work clean and dispose oil at proper service station - not the drain, dustbin or field-next-door pls!!!
Re: Gen3 3.2 DiD Oil Change
Tip: While the old oil filter is still on the engine, punch a hole at the lowest point.
I use a Phillips screw driver which I sharpened specifically for this.
The oil in the filter will drain through the hole and when empty, you can remove the filter without a mess.

Buy oil filter from dealers they are cheaper than midas and co. Also make sure that the old oil filters seal also came out, they soemtimes get stuck. :D

Hi guys!

Thank-you very much the advice. Will be doing my 1st oil change by myself now :)

Only prob is I don't have a sump-plug gasket, so I'm kinda hoping that Midas will have this, coz Mitsubishi is closed on a Sunday :)

Thanks a mill again :)

Negatory :) Just went to Midas, they don't have.

Guess it's off to Mitsubishi tomorrow. Just trying to find a dealership/website or something. http://www.mitsubishi.co.za is under construction...

Wait... just found http://www.mitsubishi-motors.co.za/ :)

Ah crap! I over tightened the sump plug! Now it's not very tight, maybe stripped. Eish. Not leaking any oil though.

I should probably take it to Mitsubishi and ask them to replace the sump plug... But then they'll obviously do all the oil, so I shouldve just taken it there in the 1s place... damnit
Re: Gen3 3.2 DiD Oil Change
Hi All

My pajero has done about 7000km since the last service (Mitspro) and I would like to change the oil and oil filter between the services myself. I'll be switching to Delo 400, from what I've read, this is the oil of choice.

I will do the oil change this weekend as we are leaving for a 3000km trip in 2 weeks time and I would like to have fresh oil in the engine. I will also inspect air filter and other fluid levels. Do check them often, so they should be in place.

From what I've gathered, get oil (2 x 5l), oil filter (from stealers), sump plug gasket (from stealers). My biggest concern is fitting the oil filter and sump plug.......is there a way to ensure I don't over tighten it? I don't have a torque wrench. I guess...stay away from a ratchet, to easy to apply to much torque?

O and, do I need special tools for the oil filter?

I would appreciate any advise.

Special tools: long arms to reach the oil filter :-)
either get a filter tool for loosening the oil filter or punch a hole in the filter and use screwdriver to loosen it but make sure you have the correct replacement filter first.
apply thin smear of new oil to new filter rubber, tighten by hand nice and good.
For sump plug use ring spanner and tighten lightly - use common sense, sump plug is there to plug the hole not to keep things together so you only need to tighten to the point where it wont vibrate loose.
fill, start and let run 30secs, switch off and let oil drain to sump for 30secs, check level and top up again, start and let idle for 1min, switch off and check levels. if needed top up, go for short drive to warm oil and check levels again when engine at normal temp.
Makro is currently selling Delo400 @ R189

Re: Gen3 3.2 DiD Oil Change
So the sump plug must be installed before filling? kidding....that is common sense.

Thank you for the hints. I'll see if I can get hold of a torque wrench but if not, I'll try my best not to strip the bolt.

The filter tool, these can't be to expensive right? It's the one with the adjustable chain/belt that goes around the filter? If I can't get one, I'll use the screwdriver technique. 4E also mentioned somewhere to drain oil from the filter before removing so a screwdriver will already be at hand.

If I remember correctly, the 3.2 uses about 7l oil? Thank you for the pricing on the oil, will try to get to makro this afternoon and Brooklyn stealers during lunchtime.
