Gen 4 dashboard support brackets
Gents,

Has anybody here heard of dealer backed support brackets that can be fitted to beef up the crappy dashboard on the Gen 4?

I am also very keen to hear the reply to ths question. The rattling dash is my only gripe about this vehicle.. and with less than 2 months of the maintenance plan left this is the one thing I want sorted out!!!

Re: Gen 4 dashboard support brackets
Pejeci,

Here is what I know:

I complained when I handed in my car for the 75k service (Wednesday late afternoon). The service consultant said there are two brackets to be fitted to firm up the dash. She said they would do that for me during the service.

Things worked out a bit differently though. When I went to pick up my car late Thu afternoon it was not serviced yet. They quickly rushed off a R2 400 odd service, but didn't have rear pads in stock.

So the current situation is that the dealer has submitted a request to MBSA (no idea why not to Imperial) to fit those brackets. That will hopefully be done week after next when the rear pads have arrived and approval for the brackets granted. I explained to the service consultant that refusal will result in an interesting, but nasty fight.

She said that their dealership was the one to originally raise the issue with Japan, and Japan then instructed MBSA to fit those brackets. I wanted to know if they were the only dealership to do that, but she thought all dealerships would be able to.

I suppose it isn't a general recall because safety doesn't come into it.

But I'll tell you something for nothing, after 1300km of dirt roads the last few weeks - if they don't fit the brackets or if the brackets don't make a significant improvement, I'll be testing the market for a Prado.

Such a brilliant, enjoyable, pleasure to own and drive car with such a crappy dash, is not cool.

Re: Gen 4 dashboard support brackets
Roelf, thanks for filling me in. I will most certainly enquire about those brackets from my local dealer. Went over the Swartberg Pass and down into Die Hel recently and I must say at times it felt like the dash was coming apart - shaking all over the show, and more than simply rattles!
Re: Gen 4 dashboard support brackets
My Gen 4 has just over 130 000Km on the clock and cannot complain about the dash. Yes, on heavy corrugations there is a slight vibration on the dash, but nothing I am worried about.

Re: Gen 4 dashboard support brackets
This is my seventh Pajero in a row, and the first one to have a rubbish dash.

I had to move the GPS higher to prevent the dash from knocking it from below. The dash would jump up by more than 10mm. The speedo would jump so much that I couldn't read it.

If I loose the fight with Pajero, my first step would be to take it to a panel beater to strip and then I'll sit with them and see if we can make a plan - BUT I have no intention of losing the fight
Re: Gen 4 dashboard support brackets
I seem to remember something about this on the community too. But I will ask next time my Paj goes in for a service and see what they say.
Re: Gen 4 dashboard support brackets
Hi guys and specially Simon,

It is no good talking about the rattles in the dashboard and doing very little about it.

Some time ago, I wrote about an article in Leisure Wheels where Braam Faul, Mitaubiahi Motors SA's Marketing Manager wrote in answer to a letter complaining about Pajeros. In this article he mentioned that if any Pajero (Misubishi owner) quote: " ... who is underwhelmed by a parts or service experience is requested to contact us as soon as possible so we can intervene...." unquote. His number (HQ number) is +27 11 552 6000.

This is the perfect opportunity for Simon to log a complain on behalf of the POCSA and all its members. By doing so he (Simon) will be testing the so called water to see if Braam Faul is as good as his word!!

Cloyd.

Hear hear! Would be great, as I've complained many times about my very flexible dash on corrugated roads, and mitsu midrand are very reluctant to install the brackets. I've been told the motor plan does not cover rattles. - annoying since this is a known issue.

(And time running out for me - 3 months left on motor plan)

Re: Gen 4 dashboard support brackets
Simon has a 12th May meeting scheduled with Braam Faul. Lets see how that goes.

We can wait until then, or we can start now by drawing up a roster and then we each get a turn to call Mr Faul. That way he can receive a call every half hour
