Hi guys
My dad has a gen 2 paj,sometime ago the car just didnt want to start anymore. So we started testing and found that there is no spark! seeing as I also have a gen 2 we started swopping parts
-distr cap,coil,rotor and some other stuff too. Nothing!!
So to the interweb i went and lots of guys had that problem and said that it was the comp,so i took mine out and(after 2 weeks)reassembled the distr again and just hoping for the best tried it and first crank it took!!

After the startup we switched off the motor and then tried to start again-dead,no spark. so I put my ecu in and it took again. Switch off and it wouldnt start again-put the old ecu in and it strarted,then it ran for a while and just died again!
we took it to a auto leck and after about a week they say it "might" be the distrubuter and we should buy one so they can check.
Cant the thing be tested or checked?
Does anyone have any advise?
Has this happened to anyone before?

You didn't mention swapping HT leads.

I wonder if you don't have a break / breakdown in the coil to distributor HT lead? AFAIK some of the newer HT leads have some sort of carbon impregnated material as the conductor in place of copper conductors and this can break down / become damaged so that it may/may not conduct.

We did swop the ht lead from the coil to distr cap so i doubt that that is the cause of the problem and we did test the other leads and they were fine as well-this is a problem that really doesnt make any sense as it comes and goes!Making it impossible to trust the car will get you home

Hi Henk,
I have just seen your post and am wondering if you don't have the same problem that I experienced just after buying my Pajero.
Have a look at the crankshaft pulley and check if it is not loose. Mine was loose resulting in the key way being chewed up and the iron filings collecting on the crankshaft sensor (which is a magnet)and causing intermittent problems.

Hi Henk. Just read your problem. I had the same problem a few years back. The problem was the fuel pump. The fuel pump is triggered via the dist wich means no fuel pump no spark.Hope you get it going.

Have had 3 similar problem Once was the fuel pump (Replaced with a camry fuel pump) Ignition module (R480 same as the cold 3.0 V6) and then the crank sensor R1800 from the stealers

I finally got round to checking on the pajero again-the car has been standing since july!
I checked the ignition,and started checking any wires I could find for cuts and possible shorts,no go!
So this morning I was googling the problem and a guy in Australia had the same problem and he said there was a relay close to the ecu that was the cause of the problem.
Its a goldish relay that sits above the ecu behind the dash-pretty difficult to get to. took it out cleaned the contacts on the relay and we have spark!
Ran out of time to set the timing again,but once that is sorted she'll be running again!
