Hi all,
I have a 2003 3.2 did LWB. Under normal driving conditions the emgine temperature has never risen above the normal.... however when I tow my carravan (sprite sport) and I accend even the slithest uphill, the temperature starts to rise, it has not yet overheated, as I stop and let it cool down ...what a slep.
My questions is as follows, the radiadtor is but 12 mm thick, I believe a radiator with more cores (say 4 core) will resolve this problem.
If if I am correct, where can I purchase such a radiator that will fit without modifications?
Any suggesttions to resolve this will be much apprreciated.
Thanks in advance.
If the cooling system is working like it should it shouldnt overheat.
Getting a larger core is masking the underlying problem.
Check that there is no dirt in the radiator.
Is the coolant clear with no murkiness or browness?
Is the viscous working?
Are you using coolant?
Have you checked the autobox fluid level?

Vickaa,
Everything that 4epica said is velid but one point that he left out and what I think is very important, is the following:
Between the radiator and the valance the Pajero designers installed a foamrubber gasket. With time and the heat of the engine/radiator, this piece of foam deteriorates and in the end basicaaly falls apart. The purpose of this piece of foamrubber is to act as a gasket to prevent warm/hot air that has passed through the radiator from being sucked back over the top and sides of the radiator to the front of the "rad" and going through the "rad" agaian. Being warmer that the first time it passed throught the "rad", its cooling effect will be reduced and in the end the engine temp will rise!!
I would suggest that you go to any "rubber" shop and buy a thich piece of foamrubber that is heat resistant and fit it between the radiator and the valance.
On one of our tours, my Pajero started to run warmer thsan normal. On our return to Pretoria when I asked the "stealers" about it, they said that there was no need for this piece of foam and that they did not even have such a part in stock!! I then bought a piece of foam from Pretoria Rubber and installed it in the place where the factory foam used to be. On our next trip in Namibia at temps well over 40C, the temp needle remianed where it used to be - just below the halfway mark on the guage and since then, that is where the needle "parks" itself.
Try it, it will help.
Cloyd.

I dont have that piece and i have towed tractors with its trailer without overheating. Yes it helps but not critical!
