Timing chain blues

Hi everyone,

Took the Paj (02 3.2 DiD) for a service last week Wednesday, gave the mech a new upper chain guide to replace just for incase & asked to check the chain tension. He then later phoned me, and said that the chain is no more in spec and he suggest that it should be replaced. got the whole set (guides, tensioner etc) Friday he phoned to say that he struggled to get it going again & no power after getting it to start. Suspects diesel pump calibration / position. He phoned Allan Black for advise, they will not help at all, however very keen to get the vehicle to their shop. Anyone that can help with advice will be greatly appreciated.

It was running just fine before they got it. They must sort it out.

ok. now that I read again it seems your mech friend is trying to help you out as well. I think his diagnosis on the diesel pump is wrong though.

Download this manual for the 3.2 diesel motor and give it to him. ( 105 pages in total - 2.51MB )

What are the chances of the pump packing up at the same time as the chain being replaced?

Sorry, but he should not have taken on he task if he was not sure how to do it.

Give him the manual, as Marius said.

PS Tell him NOT TO ROTATE THE ENGINE IN THE 'WRONG' DIRECTION! - it's fatal.

Ok, I'll be sure to tell him. What happens if you do turn it in the wrong direction?

It damages the chain tensioner, which could result in chain failure.

Ok, mech phoned me and the following: seems the 1st time he tried to start the Paj "thinking" the cam timing etc was in place, it was not!! bent valves etc head is now off to the engineering shop. Fortunately he does have a defective workmanship policy and will claim it from them. Will update as soon as the head is back. Cheers Pierre'

I might be wrong but I think it is unadvisable to skim those heads due to the ceramic combustion chambers.

Any others that can back this thought or put it down ???

Apparently it is not so bad, they only have to "seat" the valves again. I told them now NO skimming!! he said its not necessary as it did not overheat etc.
