I would like to thank everyone on this Forum for all the very helpful posts. I have solved a lot of problems by just reading through the posts.
I am in the process of doing a Lexus conversion on my 2001 3500GLS Pajero LWB. The motor overheated while I was cruising about 80km/h on tar road in heavy rain. The little plastic t-piece which connects the interior heater pipes to the main pipes under the chassis broke and caused all the water to empty from the motor. The temp gauge showed normal.
I am going to install a Lexus V8 4litre. What will be the best way to go with the gearbox? Should I import the automatic Pajero box or can I use a local auto box or the Lexus auto box? I prefer to change from manual to auto. Can anyone give some helpfull advise before I make some unessesary expensive mistakes.
Regards
Wynand

Hi.
The local autobox + lex box work. You can use the front part of the lex box on the pajero auto box rear. it fits like a glove because both gearboxes comes from the same factory. Lexus gearbox is a A343 and you also get a a340 box for them. the a340 and the pajero v4aw3 box use the same shell. to get it to work all you need to do is remove the pajero input shaft and oil pump on the paj box and replace them with the input shaft and oil pump from the lexus box. then use the lexus torque converter and lexus bell housing and bolt everything together. you dont need to modify prop shafts they fit standard. For a controller on the pajero gearbox use a spitronics TCU that is normally used on the lexus gearbox. Lexus box uses 4 wires to control gearbox, while the pajero uses only 3. wire according to the diagram but just leave out the blue wire from the spitronics. lex box have a extra solenoid valve to control the pressure while the pajero box have a mechanical regulator.
And one more piece of advice. When you buy a motor, check that you take one with the sump in the middle or at the back of the motor. I made the mistake to take one with the sump in the front and had to mod the sump.
Hope this helps.

Hi Daar
Groete
