I am NOT giving up on my Pajero
I hope its OK to start a new thread for a NEW beginning as I re-consider gratefully all the sdvice and comments I have had since I began to give up on my Pajero!
I am now gonna tackle re-building my Pajero Engine (again) and get her on the road!....I just gonna do it properly this time (especially the cooling system)as so many have advised....and eventually get her road-worthy and registered in SA!.
I am in a remote part of the Karoo so finding and getting parts delivered is gonna take time....I know that!...I will keep those who are interested posted with photos and progress reports. Thanks again for all the posts I have received so far!

Re: I am NOT giving up on my Pajero
The first major component I have found is a new Radiator! My original radiator literally blew its top!...I tried 'plastic welding' it closed but this did not work. I contacted Silverton radiators to try and get it fixed (a new top-tank)...It cant be done ! What a brilliant idea to stop using brass and use cheap plastic for tanks....NO tanx! Silverton quoted R7,000 and 4 months delivery for an original radiator import!....NO tanx again!
Various manufacturers quoted about R4,000 for a custom built version if I supplied my original......no tanx again!
So being an old-time Toyota petrol head dude.....where nothing matters too much.....I got, modified and fitted an Isuzu bakkie radiator....omitting the fan cowl!....BIG mistake ok! I know that now!

Engine-Den in Pretoria have quoted R1,200 for a proper 'generic' (no-name)....so I am buying that! They also want to sell me a 2nd hand import engine for R16,000....no thanx!....Comments? (remember I have already totally re-built my whole engine to new specs....indeed running it blew the head-gasket again with out proper cooling....the original cause...? (and maybe an under-torqued head too?)

Re: I am NOT giving up on my Pajero
I am buying a compression tester ok. I want to know exactly what is blown and where right?....I see on this site what the compression should be thank you.
In the re-build I bought a fully-engineerd and set=up brand new head (the old one had cracked inside!)...The engine has hardly run yet, but over-heated and blown the head-gasket again.....do I really need to take the time and cost of returning the head to the engineers for testing?
I done it before in petrol engines....does putting two head-gaskets help?.....(this time I am buying genuine Mitsubishi gaskets rite?)

Re: I am NOT giving up on my Pajero
Get the head tested. Dont use 2 headgaskets.

Is the radiator a 2 or 3 row core?

Ok....advice noted and will do that...test head and ONE gasket!....yr right!

It is a basic 2-core radiator....but they assure me its a genuine generic per specs.

Next thing I got today....a temperature guage....mine has either never worked properly or dont register at all.....I dont trust it no more even with a new sensor.....an electronics prob?....With this new, independant item I know for sure whats happening rite?

I still cant locate a new water-pump. Any ideas locally or must I import it?

Re: I am NOT giving up on my Pajero
So I found a new radiator AND a water pump now....from Engine Den in Pretoria....be happy for me!....Now I just gotta get "Engine-Parts" in Bloem to provide the other components and I re-start the re-build next week! (with the independant water temp gauge I got already)....I will install the radiator with thick foam-sealing strips I got too!...Correct so far?
