Just thought I would share my experiences with after installing Dieseltorque's Pedalbox throttle response altering gizmo to my PajeroSport. The heavy torque converter effect and the general laziness of the throttle response always made me wish the manual was out when I was buying.
So after seeing Dieseltorque's add for the pedalbox - where it was promising to improve throttle response, I took the plunge and ordered one direct from Craig Berndt. It's basically a remote control wired into the car's drive by wire throttle linkage, giving the driver a choice between Sport, Sport+ and economy modes. Long story short - it does what it says on the can - in fact the throttle response can be sharpened to such a degree that you can induce wheelspin at the hint of an accelerator squeeze. Not safe, that. So besides that, all round good thing then? Not quite.
Whilst it does not alter the engine's power delivery characteristics, allowing the driver to use more of the power more liberally and at smaller throttle openings than the manufacturers intended can only be bad for long term mechanical longevity. If you have an auto, then the gearbox will automatically think you are using a much heavier foot than you really are, and hang on to each gear for longer. Of course, the gearbox will eventually "learn" to change up normally again, as mine did.
Then there's the fuel consumption - it uses more- a lot more, probably to the tune of about 2 to 3 litres per 100 more in the urban cycle. That's significant, but it's the price for having all that power available more immediately, and using it! If it gets too much for your wallet, it has the setting to allow you to switch it off, and the vehicle returns to standard in every respect. Despite all these cons, the pro of instantly making the vehicle so much more driveable, makes it the clincher in my opinion.
Besides Dieseltorque, other chip manufacturers are selling similar products, like the "chipbox" and "sprintbooster". They all do basically the same, but please keep in mind my experiences before handing over your hard earned.
