Excellent forum, This time I hope someone can help me. I have a Man LWB GLS DID 3.2 2002. When I crank fully left or right a GRRR... sound eminates from the engine. When you listen to it with a stethoscope it comes from the power steering pump and surrounding area. Could it be a fluid return valve that rattles when bypassing fluid at full crank, or do I have a faulty pump. I have topped up the reservoir and the oil looks clean on the dipstick. The sound resembles rattling gears. My dual mass flywheel packed up a while ago and I replaced it with a solid balanced one, works just fine. Will appreciate some advice. Thanks!
It is the power steering pump. Mine has been making that noise for the last 5 years or so. Making sure fluid is very high does help.
Sounds like the power steering pump impeller is in its way out
