Radiator - Leaking tanks

Hi all,

About 6 months ago I had my rad re-cored and the leak in the tank soldered by Silverton.
Now it is leaking again in the same place.

They can re-solder it for me under warrantee but I'm not so sure I should go that way as it might just crak again.

They can build me new copper tanks at R750 each for the 2 and fit that. But they also suggested I add an extra row of cooling to make it a 3-core rad.

I started phoning around but it doesn't sound like you get a complete new rad for my model??? As I would weigh that up against the above custom job.

So my options seems to be:
1. Re-solder under warrantee and hope for the best
2. Build new tanks from copper and leave core as it
3. Build new tanks from copper and add 3rd core
4. Get a brand new rad fitted (if I can find one)

Anyone with some advice on the matter would be helpful.

Cheers
Pierre

get it done properly. Recore to 3 row core and get the new tanks.

While you are at it, replace the coolant and the thermostat and any dodgy looking pipes.

I agree but to do that will set me back just over 7K which is why I'm considering other options. A bit steep don't you think??

get a second or third quote.

I had a radiator built from scratch (2 core) for a suzuki vitara 2 months ago for R3300.

I fethced the rad from Silverton and took it to Hardcore rads in Pinetown. The guy there told me whoever did the fixing did a bad job and that he will garantee their soldering work to be far superior.
So I left it there to be done and will take it back to Silverton to refit along with a new thermostat from the agents.

Thanks for your input!
